Floating objects in viscous DY fluid?

Post by thelastviking » Mon Jul 24, 2017 12:39 pm

I've created a whirlpool of yogurt with the viscous DY solver, and I want to drop some chunks of strawberry into it. The behaviour I want is that they land quite lightly and then float along on the surface, half-submerged. What I get instead is that the chunks (active rigid bodies with default settings) start spinning around like crazy as soon as they make contact with the liquid, and rapidly sink.

Here's a screenshot of my setup: http://imgur.com/RNVUIJw

Any suggestions will be much appreciated, thanks.

it may be that the rather violent motion of the yoghurt particles makes it difficult to have the desired effect just by the simulation alone. If you increase the mass of the berries, air friction and reduce the interaction factor of the rigid bodies, maybe the spinning stops, but they will sink even faster.
In this case it maybe better to use separate forces for yoghurt and berries such as a different gravity node only for the berries.
