parenting objects

Postby airion » Sun Oct 07, 2012 8:45 pm

Hi,

I have been linking/parenting several rigid bodies together.
Since the results are not what I expected.

Suppose i have an apple, freshly harvested from a tree.
The apple is falling (active rigid body)... it has a little twig (an active rigid body parented to active rigid apple), and a leaf attached to that twig (a softbody parented to twig ).
In Realflow i have 3 seperate shapes, since they all interact differently.
The apple is firm, the twig is also firm but can bend... and the leaf is also moving when falling interacting with the wind.

When my apple hits a collision object the twig disconnects from the apple... and the leaf also.
How is this possible? its seems like the LINK is not working perfecty?
What i want to see is that everything remains at it starting position but is affected by the wind while falling / or the collision object when hitting something.

I would appriciate any ideas.

tnx!

Have you simply parented it by using the objects Node > 'Parent to' parameter. Or, have you connected them with a MultiJoint?

I first did the regular parent... didnt work.
As soon as the collision happend with another object everything separated.

Than indeed i tried the multi-joint... the result was the same.
Allthough objects where also still parented to each other.

I unparented them and multijointed them with by stem property and it works!
tnx

I have seen that tutorial page of multijoint, but that's not really my idea of a tutorial. its just stating what the different properties do.
I have been looking for a decent hands-on tutorial for these joints but havn't found one.
Do you happen to know of any good ones?

As of yet, tutorials for MultiJoints have not been made. I think Digital Tutors (or someone else) should definitely make dedicated training for it.
