Shattering objects with realflow

Postby alspacka » Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:46 pm

Does anyone have any tips/insights/links on the subject of shattering objects in RF? I've used scripts before for constraining multiple objects (like multiple shards of glass), but I've never been able to use them to my satisfaction, and have had to re-run them every time I simulate. One example i'd like to work from is the egg shatter video on realflow's website

I've seen a lot of people use Maya for shattering, but Maya is not my native platform (and i wouldnt have a clue as to how to work it into a pipeline with cinema 4d).

Has anyone here personally done shatter effects and if so, could you share your experiences? Thanks!

Well looking around, I see a lot of threads about shattering, but most of them are using 3ds/maya etc.

I'm still interested in hearing how each of you choose to shatter objects, especially those who do it in RF, just to get a wide variety of input and to help myself and anyone in the future who finds this thread :)

I have used in the past the shatter script in Maya and a plugin for Cinema4D called "destruction".

There is a number of plugins doing destruction-dynamics, but a new plugin announced for 3Dsmax seems to deal especially with the automatic cutting and shattering process:

thanks for the advice. What I've gone and done is used maya shatter to cut up the objects, which I then import into cinema 4d and export back into realflow (I'll use a script to bind them all together). This way i spend as little time in Maya as possible :p

Not in Realflow but here you have a new power shatter/dynamics tool for Max and Maya,

by the way, it is made by the same developer of RF4 rigid bodies
