Boat is sailing like a rubber duck in a bath tub

Postby philion » Tue Sep 08, 2009 9:30 pm

Hello.

I have a boat on a realwave. I want it to sail from point A to point B.

I'm using a keyed null and path_follow but for some reason the boat just gets beaten up by the waves too much. I've tried different strengths of gravity and made sure the centre of the boats weight is nice and low. Different strengths of mass with the boat too. I've played with the boats H and V wave strength properties. I'm running out of ideas.

.....yes I am a noob :(

Can anyone please help me, or need to hear more information?

I would be most greatful :)

It looks like your boat needs more mass.
To animate a boat from a to b I'd use a path follow constraint.
You can animate a null from a to b, then in the path follow select the null
using the get path from button. that will get your animate over. then turn
free height to yes so the waves can affect the vertical motion of the boat.
The oriented button will have the boat point down the axis of the path as it turns.
The engine parameter will affect the speed of the boat along the path

how did you get the boat to float on the water? also how would you add some wake to the boat in this animation?

I put a quick scene together that uses a realwave, path follow, free height, breakable frame, and wake creation. It answers some of the questions in this thread and may help.

Realwave wake/Path Follow/FreeHeight Scene

Hi Shaun

Would it be possible to update your scene to use multijoints as RF5 doesn't have constraints anymore - and I as well as many others I suspect would lie to see how it works?

TIA
