morph magic to complex object

Postby frescalus » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:27 pm

Hi all

I've got a few minor issues here... what I'm trying to do is have water come out of a bucket and form into my first name, then last name, then into one last word...

here's what I have so far..

If you have problems with the video the link is:
http://www.delta3d.com/viseff/morphmagictoname.mov

as you can see I'm using a morph and magic and using a filter on this... one problem is that there are spare particles that seem to want to fly around, i can't seem to form the name quick enough... I have a k_isolated on it so it kills most of the particles that I don't need....

I have the magic and morph all set to nearest face....

Any tips on controlling this better?

morph magic to complex object

Hi

If you're using 5.0.3 with the morph plugin included in that release I would suggest you try to set it up without the filter and magic daemons.

The morph plugin in that release has been vastly improved and should be able to do this.

My setup would be something like:
Approach speed : Adaptive
Targets: as many as there are particles.
(or alternatively use vertices or somekind of scattered particles on the surface of the object to layout the targets)

Target selection: Sequential.
Cover mode: Lock at impact

I have it simulating right now, I made the changes you suggested but I also had to tone down a few things because some particles were flying everywhere before it went into cover mode, I fixed that but particles are flying past the object after it goes into cover mode.

The other problem I have is is that its not approaching the object fast enough now that I reducsed the approach speed, I need it to get to the object and start to cover it within 1 second.. I have an attractor to help with this also which actually is working out good, but like i said, the liquid just isn't reaching the object fast enough...

If I increase the approach speed then we get the problem that I just mentioned

ok I've been trying to get this right

http://www.delta3d.com/viseff/morphmagictoname2.mov

as you can see I have a lot of jittering going on and causing issues when I go to render
maybe I'm not educated enough or I don't know what to do, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Here is a rendering of it so far...
you can see the mesh has a hollowness to it...
does anyone have any meshing tips on how to get rid of it besides clipping with an object which may not even work all that well?

Yes you need to resimulate with exclusive links so that the liquid is not reacting with the surface of the letters.

they are exclusive links and the letters are not part of the links at all...
whats happening is, there is no fill for the letters when the morph happens

well I'm using the ParticleMesher, if I turn optimize -> curvature on sometimes it'll make a letter disappear even though the hollowness goes away... I'm not sure how to solve this one if anyone has any idea/thought about it?
