malloc/memset RF4 crashes on XP64

Postby lxdengar » Mon Apr 21, 2008 9:46 pm

Hi All,

I've submitted these crashes to NextLimit, But I'm curious if anyone else is have a series of ACCESS VIOLATIONS (C0000005) with RF4 on 64 XP. These three errors are from one scene and result in Dr_Watson killing the application.

These errors include (event log information):

The application, C:Program Files (x86)Next Limitx64RealFlow4realflow.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 04/14/2008 @ 21:04:35.516 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 000000001004208B (RFCore!cGrid::operator())

***

The application, C:Program Files (x86)Next Limitx64RealFlow4realflow.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 04/16/2008 @ 03:06:29.875 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 000000007814DDA0 (MSVCR80!memset)

***

The application, C:Program Files (x86)Next Limitx64RealFlow4realflow.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 04/16/2008 @ 10:21:43.253 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 0000000010064F02 (RFCore!Malla::CalculaPesosYCoordTextura)

These all appear to be places where RF is asking for memory outside of its allocation. I don't think we're hitting the RAM limit on this sim box - it simply looks like Watson is killing the process because its trying to reach a pointer that hasn't been allocated to it. However, is it possible that these errors come from bad RAM?

Thanks for your help!

mike

malloc/memset RF4 crashes on XP64

Bad memory can cause many problems, not saying that is the case here but it wouldn't hurt to check it out. There are many free utilities out there and most Linux distributions come with a memory testing utility on the installation media.

How much memory is used when it crashes? I've had many problems with 64-bit Windows and 64-bit RF crashing at 4GB despite the fact that both are 64-bit and more than 4GB is in the system. I eventually migrated to Linux where simulations and meshing over 4GB was no problem.

Meshing or simulation? Cheers!

malloc/memset RF4 crashes on XP64

Hi Lukeiamyourfather,

Simming or Meshing? We were trying both, but even after isolating each step, the crashes were continuing.

This is not that complex a sim. I believe one the sim emitters is about 200K particles, the other less than 1/4 of that. Total memory footprint is well under the 4GB level.

It sounds like memory might be at fault. I'll definitely be running some checks, but I do find it odd that it would get an Access Violation from bad RAM.

Thanks!
Mike

malloc/memset RF4 crashes on XP64

I think this is the problem:

rename this file: msvcr80.dll and reboot, realflow is crashing with this .dll and others some times on windows64

cheers

malloc/memset RF4 crashes on XP64

Hi 8cores,

There are actually 3 msvcr80 libraries on the system installed by default. Renaming these doesn't seem to help. Crashing actually got worse. Bummer.

msvcr80 is a portion of the .net package, I believe.

in the past I fixed the problem this way, but maybe in XP64 is different of vista64 (i have vista) but then you could send an email to nextlimit with your problem...

cheers and nice week,
