Stone Skimming

Postby Dansolo5 » Tue Mar 04, 2014 7:43 pm

My first real attempt at using Hybrido in production (RF 2012).
In the past I've just done SPH stuff, pouring, filling etc

Client is looking for a stone to skim along a surface, here is where I am currently at :-

Please feel to make any suggestions as I'm concerned I won't have enough detail when I come to mesh as it currently stands and
I need to figure out how to get the "splash" to go higher ?
is 2 million enough or will a lot more be required ?

I've watched a few tutorials but they most deal with larger scale stuff like city floods etc......would standard SPH be better suited ?

First of all, it looks amazing! :D

Did you animate the stone using Key Frames or did you use some type of dynamics?

The only thing I can think of beside adding more force to the stone, is the scale looks like it’s actually too large. I think the scale in Real Flow is 1 meter per square I think. If that's the case, the size of the area of water disrupted by the stone is huge.

Having the scale be smaller might work here, but that's just speculation.

Good Luck,

for now the stone is done with dynamics, (active rigid body, with velocity on axis).
I may have to do the stone by hand animation and bring that to get the "look" we are after.
I've been busy trying to get a water character animated but not having any luck.

So I might have time this week to get back to stone skimming and post an update.
