Jolly rancher advice?

Postby darkczar » Sun Aug 17, 2014 12:33 pm

Hi,

How would you go about recreating this?:

Advice I've heard so far:

1) Use spline emitters.

2) sculpt and animate shapes that can be used to emit liquid.

It seems like I will be keyframing in the retimer too.

TIA!

Not sure if any retimer is involved here. Those speed changes probably could be done in AfterEffects.
Usually it helps to break down such complex anmations in single elements, then it's easier to figure out.
Just post your own progress and we discuss more details.

It's going pretty well. I am using a spline emitter. I am also emitting from a square emitter parented to a candy.

The thing I can't figure out is multi-threading in RF2014. It seems like single threading is the fastest way to sim. Does multi-threading work? Is there a trick to it? It seems like _maybe_ two threads are faster for >300,000 particles, but if I use 4 threads it's just slow. ???

We have had discussion here on this topic before, but I think the idea is that you need several elements (or many) in the scene before you see benefits of multithreading, this means that multithreading is not helping a simulation with only one emitter.

Thanks - It's good to know I'm not crazy. :P
