I'll give it another try tomorrow, maybe I'll have more luck. I'll let you know the results.

I did more tests but still no luck. Here's your simplified scene. It has only the object with the cloud shader and it's set to render from 874 to 878. The zip file also contains the result images I've got. Please give it a try and let me know if you get the same results. Don't forget to change the path to the .bin sequence in the cloud shader and also the path to the output images (renderer option).

LE: I think I know what's going on. You have 3 objects on top of each other. The realflow objects draw a dummy cube when there are no particles to be displayed. This dummy cube is occluding your cloud object. I think this cube is the "bounding box" you're telling me about. Try moving the objects in the scene so that they don't get occluded by each other.

For the next update, we have already replaced the dummy cube with a proper viewport gizmo that won't be rendered at all.

I started a scene from scratch, nothing in it but the splash,

still no luck.

Thanks for all the help.

May just have to render the particles another way.

Thanks Bogdan I beleive I found the problem.

you can not use the daylight system and the mental ray exposure controls

if you use mr exposure controls and a spot light you can actually see the bounding box. this is where the issue lies.

Once I switched it off started rendering. everything shows up fine now.
