Memory Leak in C4D 9.XX and realflow 3.17 bin sequences

Postby redfrog » Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:55 am

Hi,

We've noticed that when rendering complex mesh sequences (20MB + per bin file) that C4D RAM footprint gets bigger and bigger - eventually crashing at the 2GB limit. We're using Win XP, C4D 9.6, Realflow 3.17. Everything else seems ok - but we can't see any mention of memory leaks anywhere. Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Memory Leak in C4D 9.XX and realflow 3.17 bin sequences

Hi Redfrog,

I had crashes of RF during simulation but rarely or never while rendering in C4D 9.6 on the Mac, and sometimes my meshes are bigger than 20MB.

Just noticed that you said you are using RF 3.17... the last RF3-Version on the Mac had the version number 3.1.18, was that different on Windows ? Otherwise there would be still one more update.

Memory Leak in C4D 9.XX and realflow 3.17 bin sequences

Hi ChristianZ,

Thanks for the reply. Tried to down load 3.18 but Nextlimit are saying that they don't support verison 3.xx and we need to go to 4.xx. I even asked Nextlimit whether they're aware of the issue and what the fix is is they are - but no response so far.

If you have a link to down load 3.18 I'll certainly try it.

The only way I can get around at the moment is to break the render in to lumps of 10 - 20 frames at a time in C4D.

Seems strange that no body seems to have come across it?

Thanks for the input though

Cheers,

Hi !

another plugin version might help. I remember that one version of the C4D-plugin could not export animated objects as *.sd files, which was also a rather dramatic bug, but people used the version for C4D 8.5 instead for Windows.

have a look here:

Hi,

Tried v 8.5, 9.0 and 8.0 all plugins give the memory leak problem. Have you ever seen anything like this on a PC platform with RF3 and C4D before?

Cheers and thanks for the comments,

No, have not heard about such a problem so far. Personally I use only Macs, but I have participated on discussion boards about RF with Windows users for some time.
In this recent animation here
http://www.cardiomyocytes.com/movies/Scherbenkugel_podestIIV2s.mov
most single mesh-files are over 100 MB and after rendering all 400 there was still some memory left.

Finally the standard answer to your problem might be to upgrade to RF4 or testing the demo. There will be no further versions of RF3 :(

Hi,

Its a strange problem. I've managed to get some early response out of Nextlimit who are looking into the issue.

But the animation looks great, and I can see why the mesh size per frame is 100MB plus.

Thanks for the input though, and if I get anything from Maxon or Nextlimit I'll pop a copy on the forum.

Cheers,
