un-smoothed realflow mesh loader ..

I dont understand why the meshloader in maya has a embedded option for smoothing
but the same meshloader in max doesnt ?

thus, my imported RF mesh in 3dmax has not smooth on it (polygon edges therefore look sharp)
UNLESS I apply a (auto) smooth modifier on top of it,
but the problem is that, on a 5 million faces mesh object ,
applying such modifier just takes FOREVER to compute on every single frame ( and i use bixeon with 64go ram! ) :x

isnt there any workaround ? ?

Never had that problem using a turbosmooth modifier on my meshes, probably you should try smoothing less aggressive.

Lord, no, I m not talking about geometry tesselating :p
my mesh is 5 millions faces already (it HAS to be, it s the minimum to get what i need)

what I mean is that the mesh that you create and save in Realflow is flat shaded/faceted when you import it in Max.
You have to re apply a shading smooth (you know smoothing groups and so on?)
And applying smooth shading on a 5 millions poly mesh is veeeery slow

I ve read elsewhere that it s caused by 3dmax native handling of edge smoothing .. I should have gone for maya 15 years ago :(

Hi Deumilcat,
Have you ever solved this problem? I also have this problem and a smooth modifier will crash the MAX if there're too may faces in the mesh
