Hello

I work actually with a macbook Pro on a bootcamp session, and I'm tired of this :x .
I want to buy a new PC dedicated to Realflow (and fumefx, Maxwell studio...).
I think this one will be ok for me, what do you think about it? (Unfortunately I need a laptop)

Thanks ;)

Hi

it is not bad as a laptop and relatively powerful. But it is a pity that it has to be a laptop, because these programs that you mention for simulation like RF, fumex or Maxwellrender usually take many hours or even days to finish one project. In this time, the laptop will get very hot and a lot of data gets constantly read and written on the mass storage. So, a tower PC would handle these tasks better.

For GPU I have read that a quadro is better than a Gtx(1070/1080), so if found this other one. And with 2 disks, one for system and apps and the second for data. So I think it will be better like this.
So do you think this one is better?

When comparing GPU's the number of CUDA processing cores is important for calculation speed of such simulation software like RF. I don't know the exact numbers in this comparison, but the more CUDA cores the better.

I thought that Quadro were better for 3d/cad.

I found a chart about thousands graphic cards, really interesting...

Yes, Quadros are known for good performance in CAD. However, for simulation and 3D rendering (like with Octane or Redshift), we are using only the raw processing power of the GPU.

Personally, I am using this Geforce since one month and like it a lot for the GPU-mode of the Dyverso solver in RealFlow https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/ ... US-11GD#kf
But that is not an option for a laptop.
