Finished my demo reel

Yeah that's the only thing i'd change - some >1 values on the shading - like in some of the fluid examples. The actual fire sim itself looks great. Are they completely untextured?

The problem with maya's fluid shader is the lack of control one has with high values of temperature.
A lot of these sims, have a temperature value beyond 1, so even if I do change the color for the hottest temp to some high color, the ramp in the shader goes only to 1, therefore any values beyond 1 gets clamped and you end up with that flat looking shading.
Trying to use a texture, and clamping values makes the render look ugly and going high on the clamp, compromises low values of temperature and overall it's shooting oneself in the foot.
And yes, all sims are untextured.
