Not going to siggraph? Me neither.

Extra-special guest Chalk Talker Nafees is going to previewing his SIGGRAPH paper on fluid simulation in this week’s Chalk Talk. It’s all about speed. It’s pretty easy to make a boring fluid simulation go really fast. If you’ve got a puff of gas in a rectangular box, we’ve got you covered. But liquids have crazy surfaces and boundaries and not many movies have all their effects in a nice box. (Maybe Primer? Cube? We need more sim-friendly movies like them!)

This paper has figured out a very clever way of breaking the simulation into parallel-friendly domains and then applying some silky smooth matrix manipulation to make the domain solves fast. With this you can solve seriously BIG fluid simulations.

A Schur Complement Preconditioner for Scalable Parallel Fluid Simulation - This is the paper Nafees will cover.
