Plasma Blast effect with Realflow / Maya?

Postby AquaPaul » Mon Oct 17, 2011 5:43 am

Would it be possible to simulate an area plasma explosion with Realflow & Maya?

I can imagine using a circular planar attractor to pull the particles, but not sure how to do the tadpole/sperm-like rays ... any pointers?

Much thanks for any suggestions or guidance,
Paul

Or is it something done easier with Krakatoa?
I would prefer to use RF though, since I have a license..

Yes its possible, you would probably get better results if you use both Maya and RF together.

I can more or less get the shape of the blast ring with a cyclinder object emitter, but I'm not sure how to simulate the thunder shaped motions near the rim..

You may need to start scripting to get that effect, it might be possible without scripting but you will have to figure that out yourself.

One idea could be to use a torus that scales up with the blast ring and using an object emitter select the inside radius verts and use them to emit the lightning type particles, add a noise daemon to help them move about a bit.

good luck

Thanks for the ideas, I'm trying something similar along that direction.

All the nice ones on youtube are karkatoa+max, hope I can achieve something good with RF + Maya.
