streak particles in maya

Postby thomwickes » Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:21 am

Ive got my RF particles in maya, I can see them as points, spheres, etc. - but when I set them to streak or multi streak they disappear. Is this supposed to happen? is there a way around this.

since the format of realflow particles are different from mayas, you should try to export [in export central] the .pdc format then try to use streaks.
A streak is not a streak without a velocityvector, i think thats why they dissappear. Let me know if it works :] (cant try it myself :[)
disclamer: everything i write is my own personal oppinion

Keep us posted if the PDC format works for you. I've been unsuccessful at getting the PDC files to actually interface with Maya. Maya uses very strange number padding and increment for PDC files. Cheers!

set conserve to 1 on your RealflowParticleShape node.

Great! Its also relevant when you use tube particles the tails just dissears, I put conserve to 1 and they stay like a charm :)

bit late reaction...

I RnDed that once with the goal to use pdc from realflow in Maya:

maya looks at your fps and names the particleframenumbers accordingly so:

24 fps ==>> frame 1 is 240, frame 2 is 480, frame 3 is 720, and so on...
25 fps ==>> frame 1 is 250, frame 2 is 500, frame 3 is 750, and so on...
not sure how many padding..

one time i created an emitter in maya: Circle01, created a cache for it,
then I created a emitter in realflow, simulated, then renamed the cache to match the one from maya, and that worked..

we never continued on that path however so don't remember/know if all the attr's from realflow were useable in Maya...

cheers..

setting Conserve to 1 doesn't seem to work with Maya 2012 and realflow 2012 :( Any other suggestion?
