Laptop

otuama wrote: I have a desktop and think I need a laptop to take into uni as the pc's they have are absolutely ridiculous. I would not recommend using a laptop as a primary machine for studying computer graphics and visual effects. A desktop at the same price will have roughly double the performance...

Laptop

The first laptop posted isn't bad, but more memory would be nice (and is cheap). If you don't need a laptop then the money will go a lot further in a desktop configuration.

particles throug small holes

Reduce the collision distance on the objects and use higher resolution for the particles. The "size" of the particle is larger than what the display will indicate. Unrelated but the density is low. Water is 1000 kilograms per cubic meter (as in the parameter would be 1000.0 if you want it like water).

Using Terminal to sim and mesh

bitSeq wrote: Are you sure its even loading the project file, your slashes / are mixed up.. The slashes are mixed up because on Unix (like OS X) and Linux this "" means the literal character after the slash (e.g. a space like " ") and "/" separates directories in a path. Windows uses only "" for dir...

How to optimize pc for Realflow?

elvislives wrote: If running in the GUI version Disable the Display. (alt D) Better yet use the -nogui flag and simulate in a terminal or command prompt. There's a Python script I wrote on the RealFlow site for launching a simulation in the background. Also RAID with hard disks might be a better opt...

How to store surface data?

I'm not sure about Lightwave, but in Maya if you import an SD file with objects named the same it will simply update the curves for the existing objects so the materials and other information stays the same. If that isn't happening in Lightwave I'd make sure the plugins are current, if it still does...

Network Simulation

What do you mean add more machined? Depending on the simulation you might only be able to use a single machine. The only part of RealFlow that can be simulated on multiple machines is the secondary splash and mist simulations after a Hybrido (grid) simulation is already run.

Thoughts on new machine....

The FX-8150 is not a bad processor for the money, though it shares one floating point processor per two integer processors. In other words for floating point calculations consider the FX-8150 a quad core processor and for integer processing consider it a eight core processor. RealFlow and many other...

Learning Edition

You will want to check with support to get answer on record but this is my understanding of it. RealFlow can be installed on more than one machine but not used on more than one machine at a time. So if you have a laptop and a desktop you could install it on both, but it could only be used on one at ...

Autocomplete

My guess is this is a bug or inconsistency on the development side. Send it to Next Limit support.
