Re: Noob hardware questn

Yeah, that sounds right. I only paid about 200 US for my Nvidia card. I was busy spending way too much on the CPU for rendering. I got one of those Thread Rippers from AMD. It's great, but for about 3 million particles, it was taking anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes per frame. The strange thing is it w...

Re: Noob hardware questn

Here's a stupid question... When you use the Nvidia card with CUDA, does the GPU replace the CPU operations, or does it add to it? I tried using CUDA on a simulation that had around 3 million particles. It seem to take pretty much the same amount of time per frame. Actually, when I turned on the GPU...

Forum Display Format?

Hey everybody, Up until recently, I had setup the forum to display in darker colored format that I found more appealing than the standard white and blue. I'm guessing there was some sort of change in the BB software that took that option away, for I can't find any option to change the colors of site...

Re: I9 vs i7 , more cores vs less cores which one is faster in realflow

Hey Christian, That makes sense. The simulation I'm doing doing now is fairly complex, but not with multiple domains interacting with each other. I've got a single domain, with 4 pieces of geometry, 2 animated, 2 stationary. The 2 animated objects are polygon heavy, so much so I have to increase the...

Re: I9 vs i7 , more cores vs less cores which one is faster in realflow

So far, it does not look like there is much difference between 16 threads and 32. The simulation I mentioned before starts out at about 3 minutes per frame, but as time goes on, the simulation time goes up. In about an hour, it's up to 5 or 6 minutes per frame. If you leave it going for a really lon...

Re: I9 vs i7 , more cores vs less cores which one is faster in realflow

Thanks for the info Christian, Actually, my card has 6GB, but you're right. Since its a lower end card, it probably just isn't fast enough. I can't afford 1000 on a top of the line card like that. Zohayb, Thanks for your info too. I'll try that right away and see if it makes a difference. I'll start...

Re: I9 vs i7 , more cores vs less cores which one is faster in realflow

Thanks Christian,

I've got a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 but when I turned it on, I think the simulation actually went slower. It's only about a 200 dollar card.

When you turn on the Cuda, does that work in addition too or instead of the CPU?

Re: I9 vs i7 , more cores vs less cores which one is faster in realflow

Hey Christian, I just built a new system for myself. It's an AMD Threadripper 1st Generation at 3.4ghz with 16 cores and 32 threads. It's great for rendering, but not so great for Real Flow for reasons you've just talked about. Any idea how many threads is too much? Does it have to do with the numbe...

Re: Combining two liquid meshes - need help please

Not sure about combining the fluids, but for smoothing the mesh in general, try adding some Filtering. You'll find it in the Mesh Node controls. You can also increase the polygon size which will make the mesh less detailed.

Good Luck,
